Ruth Elizabeth Thomas' Obituary
Ruth Elizabeth Friend Thomas met her Heavenly Father on April 29, 2011 in Baltimore, MD. In the days preceding her death, she was visited constantly by her loving family.
Born May 13, 1929, in Preston, MD, to Russell and Viola Friend. Ruth graduated from Lockerman High School in 1946 and was very active in youth group and in the choir at Zoar United Methodist Church. Over the years, she has filled almost every church position available. When her sister-in-law passed, she moved in with her brother, Wesley, to care for their six children. After Wesley married Avalee, she went to cosmetology school and graduated in 1954.
She lived in Phila, PA for 31years before retiring in her birth town and was very active at Sayer United Methodist Chuch. In Philadelphia, she worked for several years at Budget Uniform and as a beautician while she went to school to become a nurse. She graduated in 1978 worked at Lakenau Hospital for 17 years. Ruth continued her care for others once she retired as a nursing aide to elderly patients.
Survivors include her son, Donald Philip Thomas of Preston, MD, her brother Ellsworth Friend, her sister and brother-in-law Eunice and Leon Thomas of Preston, her granddaughter and grandson-in-law Mona and Louis Bausone of Sandston, VA, her granddaughter LaDawn Krystin Thomas of Birmingham, AL, her grandson Philip Walter Thomas of Baltimore, three great grandchildren, Marisa, Caelen and Samuel Bausone and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles cousins, and dear friends. She was blessed by much love.
She is preceded in death by her brothers Wesley Friend of Preston, Dennard Friend of Preston, and sisters Susannah Morris of New York, and Roberta Hayes of Willingboro, NJ.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church in Preston with Rev. Shirlyn Brown officiating and Rev. Robert Brown serving as Eulogist. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday.
