Samuel O. ("junior") Fairbank, Jr.'s Obituary
Samuel O. Fairbank, Jr. Preston, Samuel O. “junior†Fairbank, Jr. of Preston, formerly of Tilghman, died at the Talbot Hospice House on Monday, January 11, 2016. He was 86. Born on Tilghman Island on September 9, 1929 he was the son of the late Samuel O. and Helen M. Leonard Fairbank. After attending Talbot Co. public school, he worked for the Chesapeake Bay Ferry System, until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1950. He married the former Norma Roe on December 25, 1953. Following his release from active duty in 1954, he returned to Tilghman where he began working as a commercial waterman. Later he began working for Jerry Barrow & Son’s as a carpenter until he retired at the age of 62. Mr. Fairbank was a former member of E.E. Streets Memorial Post 5118, V.F.W. of Easton. In addition to his wife, Mr. Fairbank is survived by his children; Samuel O. Fairbank III of Tilghman, Gail Swartz of Preston, a sister; Doris Doughten of Chesapeake, VA., 5 Grandchildren; Crissy, Chad, Colby, Elizabeth, and Jordin. Also 6 Great-grandchildren, also Jerry Barrow of Tilghman, whom he thought of as his brother. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister; Betty Miller. Funeral services will be held at the Tilghman U.M.C. on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 2:00Pm where friends may call from 1:00 until 2:00PM. Burial will be in the Tilghman Memorial cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Talbot Hospice Foundation 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD. 21601 or to the Tilghman U.M.C. P.O. Box 192 Tilghman, MD. 21671. Arrangements are by the Ostrowski Funeral Home P.A. of St. Michaels.
