Shem Titus Schlabach's Obituary
Shem Titus Schlabach, age 94, died on May 5, 2021, in Greenwood, Delaware.
He was born on May 3, 1927, in Thomas, Oklahoma to the late Lorenzo Frederick Schlabach and Polly A. Miller.
Titus was married for 55 years to Rachel Swartzentruber, who died December 25, 2005. He is survived by family. Children: Delmer (Angie Ortiz) of Aibonito, Puerto Rico; Louise (Bill) DiGennaro of Holts Summit, MO; Walter (Kendra Hartman) of Greenwood; Nan (Ken) Garber of Bainbridge, PA; Charlie (Amy Montozzi) of Greenwood; 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by all 9 siblings, Walter, Lloyd, Paul, Mary Bender, Martha Tucker, Fred, Timothy, Evangel, and Pollyanna Eby.
By those who love him, Titus is described as: a pray-er, accepting, adventuring, altruistic, bad ass, chuckling, content, courageous, dependable, determined, diligent, faithful, godly, green thumb, grounded, hugging, humorous, innovative, jolly, joyful, kind-speaking, learning, loyal, multi-talented, respectful, resilient, smiling eyes, smirking, steady, storytelling, thoughtful, trustworthy, unconventional, and wise.
He grew up in the Amish Mennonite Church, later became involved in ecumenical circles and ministries, serving as staff in several Christian retreat centers, and was a member of Crossroads Community church at the time of his death. His love for God permeated his life, and his openness to God's leading in his own and others' lives created a deep faith.
Titus' earthly body will be buried by his family on May 8, 2021, 11:00am, at Greenwood Mennonite Cemetery. Bring a chair if you'd like to sit for the 45-minute service, or contact a family member for information about live-streaming.
