Susan S. Blankner's Obituary
Susan Blankner, age 77, after battling cancer, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by love on January 4, 2023. Susan was born in Washington, DC to John and Grace Shellington, growing up in Annandale, VA. She graduated from UNC-Greensboro in 1966 and married Jim Blankner the same year. Following her graduation, she joined her husband in Heidelberg, Germany firmly establishing her love of travel, history and new adventures.
Following Germany, Susan lived in Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, and Northern Virginia. In each location Susan had the knack of developing very close relationships with neighbors that have remained a constant in her life. In addition to raising two wonderful boys, Susan taught high school, worked as a law firm paralegal and human resource administrator. In 2003, Susan and Jim moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland where they enjoyed boating, golf of sorts and the pace of life in general. Susan volunteered at the St Michaels Community Center, assisting for many years with Breakfast with Santa as part of Christmas in St Michaels and for the last 19 years with Talbot Hospice. She was an active member of the St Michaels Womens Club as well as numerous Women's bridge groups.
Susan loved traveling throughout the globe letting only Covid slow her down. In particular, New Zealand and the US National Parks were far and away her favorite destinations.
Susan is survived by her husband Jim, sons Jimmy (wife Christy) and Chris (wife Kara)
and their families-grandsons Carter, Colin, Elliott and Sam. She is also survived by her brother John Shellington, nephew John lll; sister-in-law Susan Hackett (husband Bill), nephew Bryan and niece Brooke.
A funeral service will be held at St Michaels Mission Church on Wednesday, January 11 at
10:00AM. Internment will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
