Thomas D. Robinson's Obituary
Thomas D. Robinson, of Federalsburg, Maryland, died Friday, April 1, 2011, at Memorial Hospital at Easton, from respiratory ailments. He was 78.
Tom was born June 10, 1932, in Seaford, Delaware, the son of the late Waller Donoho and Marie (Friedel) Robinson. He attended Seaford schools for 10 years before transferring to and graduating from Fishburne Military Academy in Waynesboro, Virginia.
In his early years Tom worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, sold for Prudential Insurance and several food producers before starting his own industrial chemical co, Tidewater Chemical. In 1979 he joined Callaway, Farnell, & Moore, Inc., of Seaford, first as a real estate salesman and later as a Broker, retiring in 1996. During his retirement years he transported veterans from the Cambridge VA Clinic to the VA hospital in Baltimore and more recently contracted driving services to the Preston Automotive Group.
Tom enjoyed fishing and cruising the waters of the Chesapeake and the coast of Maine,
but his true passion was training Labrador Retrievers for field trial competition. He successfully trained and campaigned his dog “Whys You Always Pickin On Me”, better known as “Pickin”, to a Field Campionship and an Amateur Field Championship. He was also an artist whose pencil sketches of the Henlopen and Fenwick Island Lighthouses have sold through many local shops and his watercolors are all on display in his home. He also wrote and published one novel and has completed a second one.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sandi Hamstead Robinson; two daughters, Kathryn Eccleston and her husband David of Salisbury, Maryland, and Karen Leschefsky of Glen Rock, Pennsylvania; five grandsons, Josh Trice and his fiancé Melissa Gilbert of
Federalsburg, Sheldon Trice and his fiancé Kate Farley of Sykesville, Maryland,
Chad Leschefsky of Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, Chris Eccleston, and Brian Eccleston, both of Salisbury, Maryland; and two great-granddaughters. He is also survived by a brother, Waller D. Robinson and his wife Helen of Jacksonville, Florida, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 9th at 1:00pm at the Framptom Funeral Home, 216 North Main Street, Federalsburg, Maryland 21632, where family and friends may call one hour before the service.
