Velma McConnell's Obituary
Velma Lee Henry McConnell of Federalsburg, MD died peacefully on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at home, surrounded by her family. She was 83 years old.
Born in Cambridge, MD on March 10, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Floyd Rufus Henry and Nora E. Newcomb Henry. John H. McConnell, her husband of 62 years, preceded her in death on May 2, 2011.
Married to John H. in 1949, she made Federalsburg her home. Her many friends and family remember how Velma was always ready to lend a hand to help, an ear to listen, and a house to play in. Velma could make an ordinary day into an extraordinary one for her grandchildren.
Velma is survived by two sons, Jim McConnell and his wife Kim of Federalsburg, and Hank McConnell and his wife Karlene of Ormond Beach, FL; a devoted niece Katherine Lewis and her husband Keith of Federalsburg; six grandchildren, Justin McConnell, Jason McConnell, Nick McConnell, Maggie McConnell, Kate McConnell and John McConnell; one great-grandson Caden McConnell; four god-children, Dr. Lindy Lewis, Lisa Lewis, Brian Lewis and James “Bud” Lewis; two sisters, Shirley Burns of Salisbury, MD and Fay Pritchett of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
There will be a joint memorial service for Velma and John on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Eastern Shore Veterans Chapel in Hurlock, MD. Military honors will be presented for John. Inurnment will follow.
