Virginia Liddicoat's Obituary
Virginia Messenger Liddicoat of Felton, Delaware passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Kent General Hospital in Dover, DE. She was 95.
She was born on July 15, 1927 in Federalsburg, Maryland, the daughter of the late Henry Messenger and Esther White Messenger.
She graduated from Federalsburg High School with the class of 1944. She later graduated from Goldey Beacom College in Wilmington, DE.
She was married to Donald S. Liddicoat. He preceded her in death on November 22, 2007.
She worked as a principal secretary in the Caroline County Public Schools and later worked as a bookkeeper for Messenger Trucking, Girardi Massey Ferguson and Hickory Farms.
She was the Relief Society President with Seaford LDS Church, sang in the Mormon Choir of Washington DC and taught the gospel Doctrine Class, was a counselor and teacher for the relief society, and was the librarian of the Family History Center. She was the Former Worthy Matron of the Frederick MD Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and president of the Homemakers Club in Walkersville, Maryland.
In her free time, she enjoyed watching westerns and listening to Hymns.
She is survived by her son, Michael Liddicoat and his wife Heather of Felton, DE, her brother Guy R. Messenger and wife Myrtis Messenger of Annapolis, MD, sister-in-law Roberta Messenger of Haymarket VA and sister-in-law Arlene Baily of Smyrna DE. Also nieces and nephews Brad Messenger of Raleigh NC, Colleen Baldwin of Cronsville MD, Melanie Davis of Haymarket VA, Steve Messenger of Haddon Township NJ, and Douglas Liddicoat of Dover DE. Also close friends Bonnie Jess of Murry UT, Barbara Victory and Ken and Georgia Dee Sandstrom, all of Dover DE.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers H. Burdett Messenger and Donald B Messenger of Annapolis, MD.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday July 14 at Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg at 11:00 am.
