William Lyle Dodson
Major William L. Dodson RET, 93, passed away December 5, 2015, at Grand Blanc, Michigan. Bill lived a life of honor, service, and integrity. Bill was born in St. Michaels, MD and was a graduate of St. Michael’s High School. After high school, Bill entered the military and served with the Army Air Corp and was accepted for pilot training in 1943. He served as a flight instructor instructing aviation cadets how to fly BT13’s. Bill was a B-24 bomber pilot and flew seventeen missions during WWII. He remained in military service after the war and continued with the United States Air Force. Bill also served in the Korean War and was a recognized “Mosquito†pilot completing 100 flight missions. After a lifelong career in the Air Force, Bill retired and lived in Pensacola, FL before moving to Grand Blanc, MI. He enjoyed sailing, jazz music, traveling, meteorology and “loved life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.â€
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ethel Dodson; brother Robert; sister Dorothy; sister Edith; brother Pete. He is survived by long time love Joan Allison of Grand Blanc, Michigan; daughter Cheryl Dodson of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; son Lyle Dodson of Mountain House, California; daughter Cynthia Dodson of Knoxville, Tennessee; three grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial celebration will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church St. Michaels with graveside services to follow in Olivet Cemetery. Local arrangements are by the Ostrowski Funeral Home P.A. St. Michaels.
