William Robert Keane's Obituary
William R. Keane
Easton, William Robert Keane of St. Michaels died on New Year's morning at the William Hill Manor in Easton. He was born July 28, 1916 in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of the late Vincent R. Keane and Rose Dehmer Keane. He graduated Hill House High School in New Haven and attended Northwestern University.
His love of flying, which included attendance at the Lindbergh ticker tape parade in 1927; led him to service in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He maintained his pilot's license for many years and eventually joined the Easton chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association.
Following the war he joined his wife Evelyn Corral Keane in the contact lens business in Chicago where they lived until moving to Saint Michaels in 1982. During retirement he remained active in business as a member of the RLI Inc board of directors. In Saint Michaels he was a member of the Men's Breakfast Club and the Miles River Sail and Power Squadron.
Mr. Keane is survived by his daughter Jan Thorkelson and her husband Richard, granddaughters Annie Thorkelson (Jason Brown) of NYC, Erika Thorkelson (chad Harris) of Sonoma, CA and his great granddaughter Hanna Brown of NYC. He was predeceased by his wife Evelyn and his sister Estelle.
A funeral mass will be Celebrated at the Saint Michaels Mission Church, 109 Lincoln Ave., on Monday January 6, 2014 at 10:30 AM
