Yukiko Butler's Obituary
Yukiko Butler, daughter of Umekichi Hidaka and Sase Manabe Hidaka, was born in Osaka, Japan on December 5, 1931. Her country was torn apart by war when she was a teenager. After the war, she met and fell in love with Martin Butler, a young American serviceman, becoming his bride on April 11, 1957 and making her home in Preston, MD. She always stayed in touch with her native country through friendships and television. A picture of the emperor and empress of Japan had a prominent place in her home.
Nora, as she was known in Preston, adapted to the culture of her new country and made a beautiful home for her husband. She worked numerous jobs wherever she was needed. She worked at Preston Elementary School with her husband as a custodian for 20 years, with her in laws as a day care provider, and again with her husband renovating and renting properties. Her love for animals was shown by the pair of dogs she always kept and the countless cats she fed and housed.
A visit to her home was a treat that even those who only visited a few times would never forget. She welcomed you and offered whatever she had. Her generosity was especially evident when her brother in law suffered an illness. She cooked and provided healthy meals for him as long as she was able.
In the early morning hours of January 26, 2020 Nora took her last breath. She leaves her husband Martin, a step son Martin, Jr., a brother in law, Kenneth Butler and many nieces and nephews.
A private ceremony was held on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
