Alfred Frank Henckel, Jr.'s Obituary
St. Michaels: A. Frank Henckel "Henkie" Jr. Passed away peacefully a UMMC Easton on Sunday July 5, 2026 surrounded by his family.
Born in Easton, MD; on October 6, 1949 he was the son of the late Alfred F. Henckel, Sr. and Evelyn Crockett Somers. He attended St. Michaels High School and graduated in 1968. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. After Basic training he was deployed to Vietnam where he was wounded in the line of duty, for these wounds he received 2 purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.
Following his release from active duty he returned to Talbot County and took a position at Waverly Press and then worked as a commercial waterman.
One of his greatest passions was being a life member of the St. Michaels Fire Department Station 40 where he was past Chief in the 1980's and 90's. With over 60 years of fire-fighting service his comrades often referred to him as Chief. He was inducted into the Talbot County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association Hall of Fame in 2010. Frank was also awarded the outstanding Alumnus for St. Michaels High School in 2009. In addition he was awarded the Patriotic Circle Honor in July 2011 from his grateful family.
Frank is survived by his wife Chris, his children; Brian, Jennifer and Kelly, a step-daughter Stephanie. The light of his life was his Grandchildren; Andrew, Julie, Mollie, Hannah, Weston and Addie. Two Sisters; Brenda Mollick, and Debbie Henckel, and one Brother; Jeff Henckel all of Easton. He was looking forward to meeting his two Great Grandchildren due this Fall.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife; Linda Faulkner Henckel, and his brother; Mallory B. "M.B." Henckel.
Funeral services with with full Fire Department Honors will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday July 11, 2026 at St. Marks U.M.C. Easton where a viewing will be held from 9:30 Am until 11:00AM.
Burial in the Tilghman Memorial Cemetery will be private.
In Lieu of flowers donations in Frank's memory may be made to either the St. Michaels Volunteer Fire Dept. 1001 S. Talbot Street, St. Michaels, MD 21663; or to the Tilghman Volunteer Fire Dept. 5979 Tilghman Island Rd, Tilghman, MD 21671; or The Tilghman Wateman's Museum, 6031 Tilghman Island Rd. Tilghman, MD. 21671.
