Anne Schlechte Morris' Obituary
Anne Schlechte Morris passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore on November 14, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. She was 75 years old.
Born on April 4, 1948, in Petoskey, MI to the late Walter and Dorothea Schlechte, the family soon moved to Evansville, IN. Anne graduated from Bosse High School and then attended Smith College in Northampton, MA for two years. While there she met her future husband Joseph Morris and followed him to the University of Florida where he pursued his medical training. They were married in June 1969. She graduated in June 1970 with a BA and honors in psychology and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.
Their son Jonathan S. Morris was born in Gainesville, FL in November 1970. While in Florida, Anne, in her spare time, continued her love of horseback riding and began a new interest, training retrievers for AKC Field Trial competition. To fulfill her husband's military commitment, they moved to Bethesda, MD for two years in June 1972. This led them to the Eastern Shore of Maryland where they moved in June 1974 to Easton, MD. Anne began her career as a devoted mother and homemaker. Volunteer work in the community involved the Academy of the Arts where she excelled hanging pictures for juried shows and eventually served on its Board of Directors. She also served as a "Pink Lady" for many years for Easton Memorial Hospital's Women's Auxiliary.
In June 1976 the family made a short move to Little Plaindealing Farm in Royal Oak, MD. Another sporting interest developed, playing Six Wicket Tournament Croquet which took her to many beautiful venues such as Bermuda, Pinehurst, The Greenbriar, London, and Palm Beach. Eventually she became the coach of the Naval Academy's Croquet Team. Another highlight was the annual summer family get-togethers back in Petoskey, MI with her family, parents and brothers. Anne and her mother made many trips to Norway to locate relatives and search for their roots. At the invitation of girlfriends, she spent many fall days in Nantucket, MA as they perfected their skills at Nantucket Lightship Basket Weaving.
Anne is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, Joseph Morris MD, her son Jonathan Morris and his wife Jessica, grandchildren Walter and Lucy Morris, a brother John Schlechte and his wife Konnie, plus several nieces. Preceding her in death include her father and mother as well as her brother Thomas Schlechte.
A Celebration of Life will be held December 16, 2023 at The Oaks in Royal Oak, MD 1 to 3 PM. Memorial Donations may be made in her honor to the Talbot County Humane Society. To offer condolences and share memories online please visit www.framptom.com.
