We are so sorry to hear about Ben's passing. I met him at Newcomb Post Office when I worked there. I thought the world of Ben! He was such a kind and loving person. Ernie was fortunate enough to meet him in Cambridge when he was claiming on a boat there. Fair winds and calm seas Captain Ben! You will be missed by many!
My thoughts are with Mr. Marshall's family to lose a member at such a young age. I never met him, though feel a connection with him as a waterman and a man only in my early 40s.
I had the pleasure of meeting Ben back in 2013 while passing through on my way to Baltimore. He was a heck of a nice fella, and we talked for some time. He had a great sense of humor, and we got along nicely. I take photos of workboats, and he allowed me to snap some of his "Mistress" and I published a couple of them on my facebook page. I don't know if he ever saw them, but I would be honored to share them with his family if they would like a copy. Fair winds and following seas cap'n.
Ben and I went to SMHS together. Although I haven't seen Ben in many years, just last week he entered my mind. I wondered what hand life had dealt him and thought of the laughs that we had in our youth. Unfortunately, I heard of his untimely death only a day or two later. You said it perfectly when you said he had a talent for story telling. He was a good guy. I am so sorry for the pain that you have endured. I pray for you in the days, weeks and years to come. May God rest his soul and may each of you find peace.
