Betty P. Black's Obituary
Betty Prettyman Black of Easton died at Talbot Hospice House on Tuesday October 3, 2023. She was 100 years old.
She was born on Tilghman Island on June 27, 1923 the daughter of the late John and Helen May Prettyman. Following her education in Talbot Co. public schools, she married the love of her life, Allen "Shaker" Black, where they resided in Claiborne, MD. Shortly after that, they moved to Tilghman, where Betty worked for her family at Tilghman Packing Co. She remained in Tilghman for sometime raising her three daughters. In the later 60's, Betty moved to Chesapeake Beach, MD. to follow her husband in his work. While there, she started working for Drs. Joel Hertz and partner Jeff Idyle in their podiatry practice in Owings, MD. for 30+ years.
Upon her retirement, she moved to Easton to reside with her daughter, Karen and son-in-law Phil Harrison. In her late 90's, Betty moved into Talbot Hospice House where she passed away after her 100th birthday. She received such wonderful care and treatment from the staff at Talbot Hospice and she felt like they were all family.
She is survived by her three daughters; Dixie Haddaway of Easton, Janice Marcellas of Little River, SC. and Karen Harrison of Easton; one sister, Shirley Haddaway of Easton; two grandchildren, Thomas E. Haddaway and Gregory Marcellas; three great- grandchildren, Allen and Stephen Marcellas, and Colby Haddaway; and four great-great- grandchildren. In addition to those, she is survived by her dearest and best friend, Kitty Beck Wilson.
