It is with great sadness that we read of the passing of Mr. Hendon. Mr. Hendon was a wonderful man. We shared many late afternoon visits with him at the board office. As we climbed the stairs to the third floor to see “Slim” as he was known to his favorite redheads the excitement crew. Slim’s room was full of computers and machines - sheer delight for 4 and 6 year old young minds. There was also the fun of running and chasing each other through the halls. Sharing Christmas gifts was the best. My favorite was the year my children insisted Slim needs a Hula hoop. A present that he cherished. We will always love Mr. Hendon. His kindness, sense of humor and quick wit will always be remembered. God bless him and his family. Love, The Bertrang family

Dear family: I also extend my deepest sympathy to you regarding Mr. Hendon's passing. He was an exemplary teacher and a very giving, positive one as well. For those of us fortunate enough to have him as a teacher we were encouraged always to learn and strive to do our best. He was one of the best teachers ever!

I am deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Hendon's passing. I began my teaching career at Easton High School in 1973 as an Earth Science teacher. Billie was teaching Physics and was very supportive, kind and always ready to help new teachers including myself. He was always the first person in the school and to my recollection never missed a day. His dedication to the school and students was unbelievable. He was a MASTER teacher in every sense of the word. More importantly he was the kindest and warmest person you could ever meet. Billie also had a great sense of humor. He left a huge void in the Science Department when he took over the position of Director of Data Processing at the Board Office. No one could have done what he did in that position. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

I wish I knew how to import all the comments that have been posted on Facebook (and probably other sites as well) since news of Mr. Hendon's passing became known. He was a truly gifted teacher, one of the best at Easton High, and an outstanding person. Even if science wasn't your thing, his classes were always creative and challenging. When he moved up to the Board office I would often encounter him. He was always interested in what was going on in the lives of others, and very modest about his accomplishments. Nevertheless, I remember the Superintendent saying that he was the one person the schools could not do without as he led them into the computer age. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family.
