Charles William Asmussen's Obituary
Born July 3rd 1957. Raised on Southside Farm in Trappe. Chuck taught himself how to play guitar at the age of 13, and continued to become adept at most stringed instruments. He loved making music, for himself, and others. He founded, and played in, the group The Branches of the Vine and sang with many other groups over the years.
He was fond of the years he did shows with Bill Tull, performing old time radio skits and plays. Lately, he has been strumming and singing with Rev. John Cahall at many churches and senior facilities. He could often be found sharing his gift at Fairview Church of the Brethren in Cordova, where he was a devoted member.
Chuck served his community in many ways over the years. He was a past member of the Trappe Volunteer Fire Co., member and past president of the Trappe Lions Club, several years as Zone Chairman of 22B with the Lions Club of America. During this time he served as Congregational President of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Later he became a member and president of the Easton Ruritan Club. He was a certified scuba diver, and later he became a licensed private pilot. His main passion was collecting and displaying sweet grass baskets.
After leaving the farm at age 16, he started working at Western Auto, fixing small engines. After working for a brief time at Easton Hardware, he went to work for Western Publishing Company where he became a-color web press operator. Later he returned to Easton Hardware for 13 years, became a buyer and then part owner. He then moved on to a position with BB&J Inc., a manufacturer company, where he worked for 21 years as a territory manager in the Metro DC area; and briefly during that same time, Hamilton Distributing Company and PACOA. Later, he was hired to manage Annapolis Paint Co. in Easton and then worked a brief time for Maryland Paint as a outside salesman in Annapolis. Health issues led him back to working a short time at Easton Hardware once again. After losing most of his sight he retired on disability, spending his remaining days making ice-cream and being his full ornery self.
He is survived by his parents, Charles R. and Debbie E. Asmussen of Trappe. His sister, Donna Stevens of Queen Anne. His wife Cindy Asmussen. A son, daughter, and step-son; Christopher Asmussen, Samantha Petersen, and Ben Cadden. Along with, six grandchildren, Kaladin, Roland, Charlie, Londyn, Lyla, and Layne; and numerous nieces and nephews. As well as his faithful horse-sized lab, Maxx.
A memorial service for Chuck will be held Wednesday, January 31 at 6:00 PM at Fairview Church of the Brethren in Cordova. Arrangements are entrusted to Framptom Funeral Home-Ostrowski Chapel of St. Michaels.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Chuck's memory be sent to Fairview Church of the Brethren at 11243 Chapel Road, Cordova, Maryland, 21625.
