Charles E. Mowbray, Jr.'s Obituary
Charles E. Mowbray Jr. "Charlie," a proud veteran of the United States Navy, passed away November 15, 2021, peacefully surrounded by his family.
The son of Charles and Beulah Mowbray, Charlie grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He was born February 28, 1926, in Chester, Pennsylvania, and married the love of his life, Amy Jeanette Mowbray, on June 1, 1946.
At the age of eighteen, Charlie enlisted in the United States Navy. Charlie valued this service highly and attained the rank of Fireman 1st Class. As part of his service, he traveled on the USS Wilkes-Barre, where he serviced J-liners. During World War II, he bravely fought at Okinawa, Japan, and witnessed the peace treaty signing in September 1945. Charlie's medal includes Occupation Service Medal, Combat Service Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, and many more.
Charlie is survived by his son Michael D. Mowbray Sr., three grandchildren April Byrd, Michael D. Mowbray Jr., and Brandi Crook, six great-grandchildren Jasmine Shull, John Michael Walker, Morgan Crook, Hannah Crook, Rogan Evans, and Claire Crook, three great-great-grandchildren Isaac Shull, Oliver Shull, and Josephine Walker, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A service honoring the life of Charles E. Mowbray will be held at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, Maryland, at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 22, 2021, with Rev. Joel Beiler officiating. Please arrive no more than 15 minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to the Preston Volunteer Fire Company, where family and friends will join immediately following the service.
