Charles Henry Pugh's Obituary
Charles Henry Pugh passed away peacefully at his home in Hurlock on Thursday, January 29, 2026 following a long illness. Having just celebrated his birthday a few days earlier, he was 94 years old.
Born on January 21, 1932 in Gage, Kentucky, Charles was the son of the late McCoy and Virgie (Barker) Pugh. Charles grew up on the family farm in Caroline County, Maryland, and he was a 1949 graduate of Preston High School. Charles served in the US Army from 1957 until 1959. He was very proud of his time in the service which included assignments in Germany and Lebanon. On September 15, 1962 Charles married his first wife Evelyn Drandorff, and together they made their home in Hurlock, Maryland where later they would raise their children. Evelyn sadly passed away in 2014. Charles married the former Patricia Woodward on January 20, 2019.
Charles started out his working life on the family farm, but he would go on to be known in the area for his work selling hardware and managing hardware stores. For many years he worked at W. E. Trice & Sons in Preston, Tri-Gas when it still had a hardware component to the business, and later at Nagel's Farm Service also in Preston. Working well into his 80s, Charles enjoyed what he did and the people that he met over the counter.
Most import to Charles though was his faith and his family. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in Hurlock where he served as a deacon. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening.
Left to cherish Charles's memory are his wife Pat Pugh; his children Diane and DC Wright, Michael and Tami Pugh, and Janet and Kevin Sauvageau; his grandchildren Erica and Kenny Fox, Samantha Wright and Shawn Holland, Cody and Tabitha Reedy, Mathew and Lisa Reedy, Daleen and Chad Gulstrom, Leah and Adrian Haney, and Erica Doumani; his nineteen great-grandchildren; his siblings Princess Angelucci, Richard Pugh, Linda Meissner; and his several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Charles in death were his first wife Evelyn Pugh, two sisters, one brother, one grandson, and one great grandson.
A funeral service will be held at Framptom Funeral Home by the Coales in Federalsburg on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 starting at 11:45 am. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the start of the service. Burial with military honors is scheduled for 1:00 pm at Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Charles's memory be made the First Baptist Church, 301 Poplar St., Hurlock, MD 21643
