Col. George Edward Mann's Obituary
Colonel George Edward Mann of Preston passed away on Friday, July 21, 2007 at Memorial Hospital in Easton. He was 84 years old.
He was born on March 30, 1923 in Woodsville, New Hampshire, son of the late Henry C. Mann, Sr. and Sadie Boardway Mann.
He graduated from Woodsville High School Class of 1941. He continued his education at Bryant and Stratton Business College in Boston, Massachusetts. He served his country by enlisting in the United States Army Air Corps in 1941 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He became the office manager and produce Buyer for First National Stores Warehouse No. Haverhill, NH from 1946 to 1968. He joined the New Hampshire National Guard as a 2nd Lt. In 1950. He entered active duty at the Pentagon in 1968. He then moved to Bowie, in 1969, and was employed as a technician with D.C. National Guard as Major. He graduated form Command and General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, KS, in 1971. His military assignments included Infantry Battalion Commander, Executive Officer of the Military Police Group, and G4. He retired in December 1977 with the rank of Lt. Colonel. In January of 1978, he became employed as a Civil Service Civilian at the National Guard Bureau at the Pentagon, in D.C. as Facilities Program Manager and continued there until his retirement in 1987.
He was a member of the BPOE, AF & AM, and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Natalie Charlotte Ruggles Mann, whom he married on March 8, 1956, three children, Sandra Forier and her husband, Wayne, Rodney Mann and his wife, Joyanne, all of Woodsville, NH, Graylin Mann and his wife, Cathleen of Darnestown, nine grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, a brother in law, Everett Ruggles of St. Johnsburg, Vermont, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Mann, and a brother, Henry C. Mann, Jr.
A graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia on Thursday, August 16, 2007 at 11:00a.m.
