Elva Marie Bowens' Obituary
Elva Marie Bowens of Hurlock, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at her home. She was 53 years old.
She was born on February 12, 1956 in Cambridge, Maryland, the daughter of Emma Marie Bowens and the late Edison Bowens.
Elva joined 4-H Club when she was in elementary school and became an All-Star. She did cooking and sewing project, public speaking, and hunting. She learned to shoot and went hunting with her father. While in 4-H she traveled to Baltimore City and to all of the counties in Maryland. She received many medals while she was in 4-H.
She attended schools in Dorchester County and graduated from North Dorchester High School class of 1974. She continued her education at Salisbury University and earned her BS Degree and her MED Degree. She had taught at Preston Elementary School, and was a math specialist for the county, and was currently a Math Teacher at Colonel Richardson Middle School. She had worked on various committees for the county and for the State Board of Education. As a curriculum development specialist for the State Board of Education, she was able to travel to the states of Washington, California, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and also to New Orleans, Louisiana.
She belonged to Caroline County Teachers Association and the Maryland State Teachers Association. She was a devoted teacher and loved by her students. She will be missed by her students and many friends and all the people she had helped. Elva is survived by her mother, Emma Marie Bowens of Hurlock, a brother Edison A. Bowens and his wife, Cheryl of Easton, her companion, James V. Ricci of Hurlock, friends, Rudolph Tilgman II of Salisbury and Tammy Brown of Salisbury. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with Rev. Arthur George officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-8 pm and from 12-1 p.m. on Friday. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery.
