John C. Palmer Sr.'s Obituary
John Carroll Palmer, Sr., known fondly as “C.P.” of Seaford, DE passed away on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013 at the Harrison Senior Living in Georgetown. He was 81.
He was born on September 1, 1932 in Seaford, DE son of the late John Wayne Palmer and Ruth Ricketts Palmer.
He served his country during the Korean War enlisting in the United States Army. He enjoyed vintage cars, going to motorcycle shows, watching sky divers jump out of planes in Laurel, drag racing, fishing, gardening, and going to jazz venues. He thoroughly enjoyed going on car rides with his favorite co-pilot, his wife of 58 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Sillar Irby Palmer, a daughter, Carolyn McAllister and her husband, Patrick of Monroe, Michigan, two sons, John Palmer, Jr. and his wife Linda, of Toledo, Ohio, Thackery Palmer of Delmar, DE, a special niece raised as a daughter, Laquinda Thomas of Baltimore, two grandchildren, Aiden Calio of Delmar, DE, Frances Marie Gardner of Milford, four step-grandchildren, and several step-great-grandchildren, three sisters, Phyllis Pringle of New York, Brenda Holbrook and Anna Mortimer both of Seaford, a brother, Terry Palmer of Seaford, a brother-in-law, Joe Hawkins of Hampton, VA, special nieces, Constance Ward of Hampton, VA, and Heidi Irby-Hicks, of Seaford, devoted friends, Jamasine Matthews, Linda Tyree, Anita Purnell and her husband, Buck, J.R. Cannon, and Danny Cannon and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Clinton Lamont Palmer and a sister, Virginia Hawkins.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2013 at 12:00 noon at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 804 3rd Street, Seaford, DE 19973 with Pastor Peggy Briggs officiating. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro. A visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. To share memories please visit www.framptom.com.
