Lucas Nagel's Obituary
Lucas Lorenz Nagel of Federalsburg, Maryland passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at his home. He was 27.
He was born on May 7, 1995, in Easton, Maryland the son of Milton and Christina Lorenz Nagel.
He graduated from Colonel Richardson High School with the class of 2013. He attended Chesapeake College and Salisbury University. While still in high school, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserves and served until his passing with the 372nd Military Police Company out of FT Meade, MD. He deployed twice with the Army Reserves, both times providing detainee operations at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as a component of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon returning from his first year long deployment, he decided to suspend his college education and enter the police force. He recently re-enrolled in college and was scheduled to graduate in May with his Associates Degree in Gunsmithing.
He began his employment with the Caroline County Sherriff's Office in July 2017 and remained on the force until his passing, serving most recently as the School Resource Officer (SRO) at Colonel Richardson Middle and High Schools.
On October 8th, 2022, he married Lauren at the Nagel Home Farm. They made their home in Federalsburg and they had two golden retrievers, Hank and George, and a cat, Ivan, who Lucas loved very much.
He played on multiple baseball and soccer teams, both recreational and travel, and was a three-year varsity catcher for the Colonel Richardson High School baseball team and a three-year varsity goalie for the Colonel Richardson High School soccer team. He also played soccer at Chesapeake College.
Lucas was very proud of his service to his country and his county receiving multiple awards and distinctions, rising to the rank of corporal for both the Army and the Caroline County Sherriff's Office.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, coaching, spending time with his family and four legged friends, and was an avid Formula 1 fan.
He is survived by his wife, Lauren Covey Nagel of Federalsburg; his parents, Milton and Tina Nagel of Federalsburg; his brother and sister in law, JT and Maddi Nagel and recently born nephew Weston Todd Nagel of Federalsburg, his maternal grandfather Robert Lorenz of Preston, his aunt and godmother Susan Frazier and her husband Elliott of Federalsburg, his aunt Margie Tubbs and her husband Jerry of Collierville, TN, his aunt Bea Liu and her husband Brian of Virginia Beach, VA, several cousins including Austin Frazier and his wife Victoria and Lauren Merrick, her husband Glenn and their two sons, Mason and Rhett, with whom he was very close, his god-daughter Emily Miller, as well as the entire Covey family.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Myers and JoAnne Nagel of Federalsburg and maternal grandmother Sandra Lorenz of Preston.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2022, at 1:00 at Colonel Richardson High School with Pastor Wayne Stone officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 1:00. Fellowship to include refreshments will follow the service in the high school cafeteria. Burial services will be private at a later date at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Caroline County F.O.P. Lodge #118, PO Box 254, Denton MD 21629 in memory of Lucas Nagel for emotional support services to reach those suffering from PTSD.
