I worked with Elaine at the House Judiciary Committee in the the 80's. She was one of the nicest people I knew at the time. For some reason today she crossed my mind and I decide to google her to see where she was these days. I was so sorry to learn of her passing. May God's peace and blessings continue to be with the family.

Elaine was my coworker and then boss at the House Judiciary Committee in the 1980s. Smart as a whip, with great judgment, Elaine also possessed a great sense of humor. She was fun to be with and wonderful to work for.
I hadn’t seen as much of her as as I’d like to over the last few years. But I will miss her.

To Elaine's family and friends: Elaine was such a gracious and giving friend to our family, and we will miss her. When our children, Kaitlin and Morgen, as young adults moved from our family home in Los Angeles, California to the East Coast, there was Elaine, inviting them for a day at the museum in NYC or to brunch in Washington, DC. So, when we visited Washington DC a few years ago, we invited Elaine to lunch with us at the Blue Duck Tavern and had a fascinating discussion, both personal and on current events. And we were so thrilled for Elaine in 2019 when First Friend, her story of the friendship between President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) and his beloved Scottish terrier, Fala, was published (with Elaine's brother Allan Mielke serving as illustrator). Though too short, it was a life well-lived. We will always remember Elaine and treasure the times we shared together. Our heartfelt condolences to all. I will miss Elaine's wonderful friendship of forty five years. How much our hundred plus birthday lunches and Christmas holiday ones together added to the beauty and joy of my life! I am forever grateful to her for so much -- including her conscientious oversight of my trust as my trustee and will feel her absence for the rest of my life.
