Sweet Dreams
Beginning in the first grade Mildred Van Schaik, Lawrence Fluharty, Jr, and I, attended the Preston Maryland School. Two years after graduation, she and Lawrence married, reared a wonderful family and she became a prominent painter. After 59 years together, and a serious illness she died on December13 of this passed year.
I still remember Lawrence’s tribute, “The Mildred I knew and Loved” which he shared at the celebration and thanks for her life. He said that he simply wanted everyone to know the quiet, but exceptionally gifted artist, mother, wife, woman and person she was. It was so stirring that when he finished, everyone stood up an clapped.
I woke up this morning with a pleasant dream of Mildred in which she was alive and laughing. In spite of my serious mind cautioning me that it must have ben a mystical metaphoric apparition, my dream of her has remained and will not leave, it reminds me of her happiness and joy. I have therefore shared it with Lawrence, his family and many friends as well as my friends via the funeral home site and on FaceBook, because even though she and her many endeavors are missed, I hope that sharing my dream of her may enable us to have dreams of deceased loved ones and other significant friends enjoying life anew. Sharing my dream has helped me. Maybe it will help you, too! Thanks for reading and Sweet Dreams. Don Hurst
