Our dad was a self employed enterpurer during 1977-1987 operated the Fort Christina Marina Restaurant and Bar at the foot of 7th street on the beautiful Christina River.
Through out his working career in securities (Gettier), public transportation (Dart) and as a commercial driver of 35 years, (Halby Chemical Co.), our dad enjoyed meeting and interacting with others, often he would smile and wave at everyone just walking by. At the marina- restaurant and bar he played a role in providing uniquely satisfying family recreation, and nightly entertainment to many in the community. His out going personality attracted professional entertainers, such as, Nancy Wilson, the Drifters any many other local talents to perform at the Wilmington marina –restaurant and bar, which we all appreciated.
All his children and grandchildren will remember him as a firm, no-non sense motivator, but, also as a devoted, tender, gentle, supportive father and grandfather who encouraged them not to stop and lay down when life got rough, but challenged them to succeed at whatever obstacles came their way. He dedicated his life to taking care of his entire family, brother and sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins; if they called he would be there. Those that met him would agree that he enjoyed throwing a party to meet the needs of all who came into contact with him
Your proceeded loves in death, his parents, Noble and Eleanor Simms, (brothers), Shelton, and Alonzo; (1st wife) Norma Simms, and son Michael, (grandsons), Daniel Richard, and David Lee were very fond of his love and appreciation.
As he leaves, his cherish memory will be replayed with much thanks, from his devoted wife, Jessie Loueda Helton Barricks Simms, (sons) Lionel, Morris Jr., Richard, Keith, David; (daughters), Sherri (Malone), Lori (Watson) and dedicated, loving daughter Schiendal (Barricks) 22 grandchildren, (grandsons) Morris III, Michael Jr., Derrick, Brian, Cecil, Colin, Jarron, Christopher, Daniel, Trevion, Zyeed, (grand daughters) Lakisha, Kyniece, Quinetta, Merrilyn, Sheena, Brean, Chenelle, Kiondra, Caprice, and Kierah, 18 great grand children.; seven siblings, Claude, Russell, Virgil, Shirley, Barbara, Sylvia, Brenda, and many nieces and nephews. As our as dad would say “that’s a big 10-4”
