Rasmus Nicolay Apenes' Obituary
Rasmus Nicolay Apenes, age 92, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 2, 2026 at his home in St. Michaels, MD. Born on October 1, 1933, in Oslo, Norway, he lived a long and full life marked by devotion to family, professional success, and a deep appreciation for the world beyond his doorstep.
In 1957, he married the love of his life, Ann, in London, England. Together they built a family that spanned continents and generations. He is survived by his beloved wife, his daughter, Anita, and his son, Mikal. He was predeceased by one son, Christen.
His children were born during different chapters of his international life: a daughter born in London; a son born in Oslo; and a son born in New York City.
He enjoyed a successful career as a ship broker, a profession well suited to his global outlook and keen understanding of people and commerce. A true world traveler, he embraced different cultures and places with curiosity and respect, carrying those experiences with him throughout his life.
For the past 30 years, he made his home in St. Michaels, Maryland, a place that reflected his lifelong connection to the sea. A lifetime sailor, he found joy, peace, and purpose on the water.
Above all, he lived a life well spent-rich in family, work, and experiences. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his international spirit, and the example he set of a life thoughtfully and fully lived.
A celebration of life will be held at the Miles River Yacht Club; date and time to be announced.
