William R. Reed's Obituary
William R. Reed, of Federalsburg, Maryland passed away on Friday, May 1, 2015 at his daughter’s home in Snow Hill, MD surrounded by his loving family. Bill was affectionately known by all who adored him as “Poppy”. He was 82.
Poppy was born July 27 1932, in Ocean City, Maryland, the son of Anna Rebecca Taylor Reed and Lloyd Nelson Reed, also known as “Capt. Woose” of Chincoteague, VA. He was preceded in death by his wife Anne E. Reed of 53 years, his son William R. Reed Jr “Billy”, and his daughter Kathy Jo Reed. Poppy was a lifetime member of Federalsburg Vol. Fire Dept. which he joined on June 21, 1951. He served as Fire Chief during his time and was voted most outstanding member in 1981. He began working at E.I. Dupont in 1951 and retired in 1985. He then worked as a Courier for Maryland National Bank and then had a second retirement. He spent the several following years working with his Daughter Linda and son in law’s Steve’s restaurant “Fish Tales” located in Hatteras, NC. This also while caring for his wife Anne, who was recovering from a stroke. He enjoyed raising his boxer dogs, vacationing with his family in Hatteras, and daily visits to the firehouse. Bill suffered from congestive heart failure since December 2013. In December 2014 he decided to have a valve replacement surgery performed. While knowing the many risks involved, he opted to do the surgery anyway in hopes of gaining a few more years of quality life. Tragically enough due to complications from surgery, he remained hospitalized until April 2015 when he returned to his daughter’s home with Coastal Hospice care. Unfortunately his body had been weakened and unable to keep up with his will to live. He is survived by his daughter Linda Reed Adkins and her husband Steve Adkins; Granddaughters: Sheri E. Smith and her husband Brian, Brandy E. Burton and her husband Kevin, Jennifer E. Greenlaw and her husband Richard; Grandson, David L. Cannon II and his fiancé Jamie; Great-grandchildren: Brandon, Christopher, Sarah, Emily, Maya, Talan, Eva Kate, Patrick, Jakob, Kaden, and Dalton. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with the Reverend Denzil T. Cheek officiating. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00.
